Inmate escapes from custody
A male inmate reportedly broke out a window of a transport van that was being taken to St. Paul near the Minnesota Highway 13 exit on Interstate 90 and escaped from custody at 4:38 a.m. today. The male, described as African-American with long black hair in dreadlocks, who was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, reportedly took off heading south.
Deputies located him, and he was taken back into custody without incident, said Sgt. Tim Bennett with the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office. The inmate reportedly sustained some injuries from escaping through the van window and was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with injuries deemed not life-threatening.
The name of the man was not immediately available as of press time.
Bad check reported
A bad check was reported at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday at Morris Furniture, 1909 E. Main St. When the customer was confronted, he reportedly left with a piece of furniture.
1 arrested for theft, warrant
Police arrested Dennis Lee Jaspers, 53, for theft, a warrant from Cerro Gordo County for theft and gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday at 606 Water St.
Jaspers reportedly made a fraudulent return and left with a 32-inch Polaroid flat-screen television from Shopko less than an hour earlier. Shopko reportedly wanted to press charges and trespass Jaspers.
Shopko reported a loss of $159.99.
Tennis shoes stolen
Tennis shoes were reported stolen at 11:04 a.m. Tuesday at Albert Lea High School.
Vehicles tear up grass
Two vehicles were reported having torn up grass on the east side of Northbridge Mall at 12:19 p.m. Tuesday. The two vehicles were located at Arby’s, and the drivers were reportedly trespassed from mall property.
1 arrested for domestic assault
Police arrested Adam Ly Haas, 23, on probable cause for felony domestic assault at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday at 606 Water St.
Assault reported
A woman reported being assaulted at approximately 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at 142 N. Broadway in Alden. The woman reported being pushed in the face and having her shirt torn by another woman. The alleged incident was reported at 1:22 p.m.
