Larry Torgerson, 1935-2015

Larry Keith Torgerson, 80, of Northwood died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at his home.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood. The Rev. Tom Martin of Bethany Lutheran and Elk Creek Lutheran Church of Kensett will officiate. Burial will be in Somber Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the chapel.

Those wishing to give a memorial in his memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Larry Keith Torgerson was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Albert Lea, the son of Fritz and Luella (Hillman) Torgerson. Larry graduated from Northwood-Kensett Community Schools, Drake University, Harvard  School of Business in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as Columbia University Law School in New York City. He had been a legal counsel for 88 banks and served as vice president, president or chairman of a number of organizations. Larry was a world traveler and had specialized in private investment strategies.

Larry had been named to “Who’s Who in the World.”  This honor is received by very few individuals throughout the world and is only given for those who have demonstrated superior personal achievements. His other honors include Outstanding Young Men of America, MENSA — top two percent in I.Q., National Collegiate Who’s Who and Who’s Who in the Midwest several times.

Larry loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and his Chevrolet Corvette cars.

Survivors would include many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister who died in infancy, Wauneta Torgerson.
