Man charged in escape from transport van

A Minneapolis man who escaped custody Wednesday morning on Interstate 90 is facing local charges.

Todd Larry Tennin, 31,was charged Wednesday in Freeborn County District Court with criminal damage to property and escape from custody.

While riding in a transport van just west of Minnesota Highway 13, Tennin allegedly broke a rear window from the vehicle and escaped.

Tennin was being transported to Ramsey County to face a second-degree murder charge, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.

An extensive search was immediately initiated by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and the Albert Lea Police Department.

Tennin was reportedly located and taken back into custody without further incident near the Super America gas station, at the intersection of Interstate 90 and Highway 13.

Tennin was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

He was transported to Ramsey County following his release from the hospital.

Tennin will face his charges in Freeborn County once his legal matter concludes in Ramsey County, said Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag.

According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, there is no threat to the public.
