Med. marijuana program is fraud

This letter is in response to last Wednesday’s article on the expansion of the Minnesota medical marijuana program:
It has been my mission to expose this program for the fraud it is, since the law was passed.
This week intractable pain was added to the list of qualifying conditions — done only in the most limited circumstances, where no other treatment is effective. History of past drug use and/or abuse is taken into consideration, and certification may be denied at the physician’s discretion.
Let’s start with the fact that it is a well known fact in the medical community that as an anti-inflammatory, cannabis is 20 times stronger than aspirin or ibuprofen, and twice as strong as hydrocortisone. If our health department does not know that, they are incompetent and negligent.
Every over the counter and prescription anti-inflammatory or pain reliever has a high toxicity profile, where the toxicity of cannabis is almost non-existent. As such, cannabis should be the first line of treatment for pain — not the last.
The system is rigged, and it’s technically criminal and favors the state while compromising patients in every way: overpriced, difficult to access and no proven advantage over natural plant product.
Allowing this system to continue paves the way for greater regulation in the future and does not lend itself to a loosening of restrictions for the common need for greater access. There is, for example, no way to amend a program like this to include home grow.
Enabling participants in this program only supports the state’s corporate duopoly, and signals acceptance of the fraudulent system.
Further, it attempts to keep cannabis a mystery and perpetuates the myth that marijuana is a dangerous drug when most of the population knows better!
Thank you.
