GARRISON — A Twin Cities man spent about an hour in frigid water after his snowmobile broke through the ice of a north-central Minnesota lake.
The Crow Wing County sheriff’s office got a report around 5 p.m. Saturday that two people had broken through the ice of Partridge Lake. Emergency crews arrived to find 30-year-old Steven Truehart of Brooklyn Park still in the water about 100 yards from shore.
Three members of the Garrison Fire Department, wearing cold weather rescue suits, pulled Truehart safely to shore.
Deputies said Truehart and a 33-year-old woman from Arizona had been riding snowmobiles on the lake when Truehart’s snowmobile broke through. The woman tried to help Truehart, but she broke through the ice. Family members were able to pull her from the water.
