The 15th annual veterans Christmas party is planned for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at the American Legion in St. Ansgar, Iowa, according to a press release. Introductions and “Share a Story” begins at 10 a.m.
The organizers encourage those interested in attending to come early for Christmas goodies and coffee. Char’s Polka Band will play Christmas and polka favorites. A lunch will be served by Paradise Pizza. Veterans, their spouses and the public are welcome to attend.
The master of ceremonies will be 96-year-old World War II women’s Airforce service pilot Liz Strofus of Faribault, recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for being a WASP. She recently received another Congressional Gold Medal in Washington, D.C., for being one of the original civil air patrol pilots, as well.
The veterans Christmas party is sponsored by Phil Fleischer — who can be reached at P.O. Box 253, St. Ansgar, IA 50472; or 641-736-2346 — not by any veterans organization.
The free event is alcohol- and smoke-free.
