The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch for much of west central Wisconsin and southern Minnesota — including Albert Lea — on Tuesday.
A strong winter storm is forecast to bring accumulating snow and strong winds. Confidence is increasing on the potential for significant snow accumulations and travel impacts, according to the Weather Service.
Strong winds may result in whiteout conditions Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. Sustained wind speeds could reach over 30 mph, with gusts near 40 mph.
Snow accumulations are expected to be between 4 and 8 inches.
A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This will make travel dangerous.
The blizzard watch is in effect along and south of a line from St. James through Mankato to Owatonna. A winter storm watch is in effect for southeast areas of Minnesota, including Faribault and Red Wing, as well as for portions of west central Wisconsin.
