Albert Lea takes 1st place in 3 events during parents’ night

The Mankato East boys’ swimming team outswam Albert Lea 97-70 Thursday in a Big Nine Conference matchup at Albert Lea High School.

The Tigers placed first in three events: the 100-yard backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

Junior Travis Nemec won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:11.76. Freshman Carter Simon swam to first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.78. Taking first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:02.75 was the team of Esteban Johnson, Philipp Wagner, Andrew Field and Travis Nemec.

Albert Lea took second place in seven events: the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay,  as well as the 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

Next, Albert Lea will swim at 6 p.m. Thursday at Mankato West.
