Florence Possehl, 1925-2016

Funeral services for Florence E. Possehl will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Kassera will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Florence E. Possehl passed away Friday, January 1, 2016, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea. She was 90.

On July 17, 1925, Florence was born to Rosamunda and Otto Neumann in Waseca County. She graduated from high school in New Richland. She worked at the hemp plant and the meat market in New Richland after high school. Then, she married her husband, Alfred John Possehl, on Jan. 20, 1950, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland. After getting married, Florence worked on two dairy farms and help with chores. In August of 1958, the couple moved into their Adams Avenue residence in Albert Lea.

Florence was an excellent homemaker, helping raise her six children. Her favorite pastimes included sewing, quilting, knitting, embroidering, scrapbooking, gardening, canning and studying her Bible. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and helped with Sunday school, ladies aide, Bible study and the quilters. Florence enjoyed spending lots of time with her husband and her family.

She is survived by her children Ramona (Gary) Offersen of Iron, Rita (John) Tidemann of Solon Springs, Wisconsin, Roy (Kath) Possehl of Albert Lea, Roger (Melody) Possehl of Mather, Wisconsin, Rex (Susan) Possehl  of Hartland and Ron (Sherry) Possehl of Albert Lea; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Sutlief of Owatonna; brother, Virgil (Janet) Neumann of Owatonna; and many other relatives.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents Rosamunda and Otto Neumann; husband, Alfred Possehl; sister, Dorothy Sutlief; brothers Raymond Neumann and Otto Neumann; grandchildren Andrew and Sarah Larson; great-grandchild, Gabriel Flugum; sister-in-law, Delores Neumann; and brothers-in-law LeRoy Sutlief and Earl Sutlief; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ray and Emily Possehl and Walter and Gloria Possehl.
