Jerry Marquardt, 1933-2016

Funeral services for Jerry Marquardt will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery near Sheffield, Iowa.

Jerry Clarence Marquardt, 82, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. Jerry was born June 15, 1933, to Otto and Fannie (Dannen) Marquardt in Franklin County, Iowa. He was raised near Swaledale, Iowa, where he also attended school. He married AnnaMae Schwier Johann July 26, 1954, in Mason City, Iowa. Together they raised six children.

Jerry has lived in Chapin, Iowa, Zumbrota, Meriden, Owatonna and Glenville. He spent most of his working life driving truck, holding jobs with Allied Van Lines and Medi-Van as well as driving grain trucks for farmers during harvest.

As an Army veteran, he was involved in the American Legion in Glenville for many years. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, polka music and dancing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory include his six children, Melvin Marquardt of Glenville, Myron Marquardt (Florentina) of Yuma, Arizona, Dale Marquardt of Albert Lea, Katherine Marquardt Hinzmann (Randy) of Zumbrota, Patricia Marquardt of Owatonna and Janice Marquardt of Owatonna; grandchildren Melissa Schultz, Jeremiah Schultz (Roseann), Angela Marquardt, Christopher Marquardt and Breanna Marquardt; step-grandchildren Christopher Hinzmann and Amanda Hinzmann (Desire Ako); great-grandchildren Grant Schultz and Mirielle Ako; siblings Helen (George) Feil and Rosella Staub; sisters-in-law Mary Marquardt and Nadine Reiher; brothers-in-law Edward Schwierjohann (Norene) and Clarence Schwierjohann (Karnella); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Fannie Marquardt; wife, AnnaMae Marquardt; brother, William Marquardt; and sister, Bette Evenson.
