Funeral services for Clarine “Kay” Nelson of Ellendale will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Richard Sliper will officiate. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale and one hour before the service at the church.

Kay died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. She was 89.

She was born on Oct. 8, 1926, in Emmons the daughter of Knut and Clara (Juveland)Hovland. She graduated from Emmons High School and completed Naeve nurse’s training.

She was united in marriage to Gilmore Nelson on Oct. 24, 1953, at Lime Creek Lutheran Church.

Together they made their home in Ellendale for more than 50 years.

Kay was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale where she was active in mission circle, ladies aid and the altar guild.

Kay had been a nurse in Albert Lea, Minneapolis and St. Peter, before she worked at the Ellendale Post Office for 25 years.

She enjoyed bowling, card club, sewing, reading, bingo, quilting, ceramics and in earlier years, had served as a cub scout leader.

She will be lovingly missed by her husband, Gil, of Ellendale; children Brenda (Randy) Dokken of Albert Lea, Sheila White of Ellendale and Gary (Deb) Nelson of Clara City; grandchildren Herb (Lori) Moon, Tiffany (Josh) Krueger, Joe (Mandy) Moon, Holly (Joe) Bates, Brock (Heather) Nelson, Geoffrey Nelson and Johnny White; great-grandchildren Meaghan, Maddie, Ava, Jayda, Owen, Ashton, Mikala, Greyson and Addie Jo; sister, Mavis Bartsch of Geneva; sister-in-law, Dorothy Towne of Emmons; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Knut and Clara Nelson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold and Hilda Nelson; brother, Ervin Hovland; son-in-law, Gregory White; and brothers-in-law Clayton and his wife, Audrienne Nelson, Lloyd and his wife, Bernice Nelson, Donald Bartsch and Earl Towne.
