MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis NAACP is calling on the Mall of America to fire security guards involved in restraining a teenage girl.
A video has surfaced showing officers restraining the 14-year-old. The video shows the girl lying face-down on the floor screaming as one officer holds her down.
According to Minneapolis NAACP, the incident took place Dec. 26 when mall security approached the girl for being unaccompanied by an adult. The group said officers then told her to leave and she walked around the train station asking for change for $20 bill.
The Minneapolis NAACP said the girl suffered injuries. The organization wants a public apology.
The mall said it cannot comment but said its security officers “are highly trained and consistently perform in a professional manner.”
