Called the Southern Minnesota Social Media Breakfast Club, the group will meet monthly and learn about not only promoting local businesses on social media, but the community, too.

Robin Russell said the event is open to the public, whether it is a parent who wants to understand what their children are doing on social media, someone who wants to know what social media is or a business owner who wants to better utilize it to promote their business.

“The general idea is to promote the use of social media and give tools on how to navigate it,” said her husband, Mark Russell.

The couple also hopes to teach the community how to cross promote each other.

“When we all jump on board to promote (Albert Lea) on social media … it’s huge,” Robin Russell said.

Each session will feature a different speaker, and there will also be local people who are using social media successfully for people to talk to so attendees can see first-hand the local benefits.

The featured speaker on Tuesday will

be social media enthusiast Sara Broers, who lives in north-central Iowa and was one of the founders of the North Iowa Bloggers.

Her presentation is titled “Why you should care about social media in rural America.”

Broers is the founder of the North Iowa Social Media Breakfast Club and speaks nationally on topics related to social media.

When not traveling, Broers can be found assisting clients with social media projects.

“We really want to help the Albert Lea community be able to utilize and promote their business to the best that they can,” Robin Russell said.

To sign up for the breakfast, visit the Southern Minnesota Social Media Breakfast Facebook page.

Breakfast and coffee sponsored by various people and businesses will be provided at each meeting.

The meeting will be the last Tuesday of each month, unless that date lands on a holiday.
