Glenville basketball placed 2nd 50 years ago
50 years ago: 1966
The Glenville High School basketball team finished in second place at the Lyle Holiday Tournament. The Trojans won their first round game 46-45 over Rose Creek. Danny Rodgers scored 14 points and Kenny Cafourek 12 to lead the Trojans. Lyle won their own tournament in the championship game by defeating Glenville 85-60. Glenville was again led in scoring by Rodgers with 16 points and Cafourek with 12.
Archie Clark scored 31 points to lead the Minnesota Gophers to a 92-87 win over La Salle and a third-place finish in the Quaker City Classic Basketball Tournament. Paul Presthus scored 18 points for the Gophers.
25 years ago: 1991
In the Eagles Holiday Girls Basketball Classic Tournament ALHS won their first game 67-53 over Hayfield. ALHS defeated Mankato West 58-41 in their second round game. The Tigers were led by Pam Stoltz with 21 points, Lori Coughlin 14 and Jenny molden 12. Owatonna defeated ALHS 44-41 in the title game to finish in second place. Stoltz scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds for the Tigers.
The ALHS boys basketball team defeated Robbinsdale Armstrong 60-55 to win the consolation game in the St. Cloud Holiday Tournament. The Tigers were led by Chad Hinz with 18 points, Jon Cluppert 17 and Aaron Davis 13.
The ALHS boys hockey team defeated Henry Sibley 5-4 in double overtime in the Austin Moose Hockey Classic. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Scott Diggins, Chad Cliff, Brett Adams, Jason Gilderhus and Todd Intihar.

Laura Hillman, Marissa Cottrel, Madi Passingham, Sara Jensen and Katie Nelson each scored one goal for the ALHS girls hockey team in their 5-4 victory over New Ulm.
The Aragon Darkside won the Albert Lea Men’s Volleyball Power Division. Team members were Tim Stapleton, Steve Tufte, Steve Munson, Scott Woitas, Kurt Wallace and Brandon Munson.
Emily Appel scored 13 points and Vanessa Politz 11 to lead the Alden-Conger Knights girls basketball team to a 46-33 win.
