Woman charged in Minn. nurse’s overdose death
DULUTH — Prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old woman in the 2014 drug overdose death of a Hermantown nurse.
Kayla Jo Vranish is charged with third-degree murder in St. Louis County court. Vranish is accused of selling heroin to 62-year-old Kathy Ann Davis, who was found dead in her home by her husband on Nov. 30, 2014.
According to a press release, authorities determined the heroin Davis ingested was laced with fentanyl, a potent narcotic.
Vranish was arrested Wednesday. She remains in jail with bail set at $125,000.
An autopsy found Davis died from an accidental “self-administered” overdose.
Davis’ husband told police he found his wife unresponsive with a needle and rubber tourniquet in her hand. He said he knew of her heroin addiction and was trying to get her clean.
