AAUW to host speaker

The next American Association of University Women will meet at 5:30 p.m. March 7 at America’s Best Value Inn in Albert Lea. The guest speaker, John Smith, will present “Women Making a Difference — See History in a New Way.”
According to a press release, Smith received a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Colorado and 60 hours above the master’s. Smith worked in Denver Public Schools for 35 years as a teacher and administrator. Upon retiring in 1990, he obtained his real estate sales license and also started a community newspaper called The Greater Far Northeast Reporter. He sold real estate and was editor of his newspaper for 20 years. Smith also did a lot of volunteering. He is a lifetime member of the Optimist Club and president of Far Northeast Neighbors, Inc.
He was also on many other boards. The U.S. flag has been flown over the U.S. Capitol in recognition of his volunteer work, which was initiated by Colorado Senator Hank Brown. He has received the Minoru Yasui Award for community volunteering and Foot Soldier of the Year from Montbello High School, as well.
The menu will consist of spaghetti, garlic toast and coffee. The cost is $11.
