Roger Solberg, 1944-2016

Memorial services for Roger Craig Solberg of Hartland, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St Olaf Cemetery, New Richland.

Roger died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 71.

Roger was born March 1, 1944, in Waseca, the son of Joseph and Alma (Sigurdson) Solberg Sr. He graduated from public high school and attended Mankato Commercial College and the Waseca Ag School for Horticulture. Roger was united in marriage to Cathy Chicos on Oct. 25, 1961, in Mankato. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he had served on church council and volunteered many hours on various projects.

Roger had been engaged in farming for over 25 years, was a forester for the city of Albert Lea, ran his own tree trimming service (Envirocare) and operated the Fox Inn Restaurant for several years.

He was a hardworking husband and father and provided well for his family. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, reading, camping and spending time with his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Cathy, of Hartland; daughter Joanne (Dann) Phillips of Hartland; grandchildren Chelsy (Scott) Wyffels, Gina Quiram, Abby (Bryce) Jensen and Kacie Phillips; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Wyffels; one brother, Joseph (Barb) Solberg Jr. of Albert Lea; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joell Quiram in 2014 and one brother, Palmer Solberg.
