Funeral services for Henry Waalkens, 91, of Albert Lea were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Clayton Balsley officiated. Burial was at Hollandale cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the Freeborn County servicemens organizations, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Online condolences are welcome at  www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Henry died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.

Henry Waalkens was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Allison, Iowa, the son of John and Minje (Wiebrands) Waalkens. He attended and graduated from Hollandale School. Henry served his country during World War II in the Air Force Marines. On Dec. 29, 1947, he was united in marriage to Matilda Karsjens at Hollandale Reformed Church. Henry worked in construction, carpentry and concrete finishing. He also worked at the Hormel plant in Austin. After the death of his wife, Henry married Inez Karsjens on Oct. 28, 1986, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was a member of Hollandale Congregational Church for 38 years, Grace Baptist Church in Austin and Calvary Baptist in Albert Lea. Henry enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time outdoors.

Henry is survived by his wife, Inez; children Patricia Anderson of Faribault, Larry (Paige) Waalkens of Forest Lake, Loren Waalkens of Lake City and Lori (James) Otis of Wesley, Iowa; stepchildren Susan (Randy) Cockeram of Albert Lea, Marjorie Renchin of Albert Lea, Jerry Bronson of Albert Lea, Morris Bronson of Alden and Kathy Pesak of Hermitage; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Matilda; daughter, Judy Renville; stepson, James (Cathy) Bronson; three brothers; two sisters; and sons-in-law Arnie Anderson and Mark Langstaff.
