Safety first, people second

I have been in front of the City Council a couple of times.
The matter I brought up was putting up no parking signs or sidewalk. I was told at the last meeting, “I’ll let you know.” I was there on March 28, and I addressed the honor himself, and he said “I’ll tell you later what the answer will be.” They took care of the rest of the matters. Then came what I was waiting for, but he didn’t tell me so he passed it over to the city manager. He said no because there isn’t enough worries about traffic coming and going in or out. So, no parking signs or no sidewalk for safety.
They don’t care about the safety for the little children from Lakeview School. They don’t care about mothers who push strollers into the park or anybody else.
So his honor doesn’t want it, and he goes this way because our city manager backed him with an answer of no.
So I went out to Edgewater Drive, and I parked my truck where cars would park around the cuver. I took my tape and ran it across the road and camp up with two different measurements, one was 18 feet, 10 inches with no cars parked there. The next measurement was 13 feet 10 inches with a car parked.
You can’t tell if a car is coming out of the park with cars parked on the north side of the road. His honor says people need to have a place to park so they can go to their docks. Well, those docks belong to the ones that own homes there and that means his honor has a dock across the road from his home and still no parking signs for friends and family members.
Go to West Clark Street and look at the last house on the south side. Her sidewalk comes right to her front door. His honor said it’s for safety. They don’t want it.
So, come on people, let the mayor, city manager and the council know how you feel. It’s their way and not the people’s way.
