Report: The Freeborn County Foster Care Backpack Project was started two years ago by Albert Lea Lake View Lions Club. Sometimes children from birth to 18-years-old cannot live safely with their own families, so another family gives them love and care through the foster care program. That’s when the program is utilized.

The club puts together individualized backpacks to be given to these children. The purpose is to offer the children comfort during this transitional time. Some of the items include underwear, socks and clothing, pillow, school supplies, a beanie baby and a blanket.

According to a press release, during the past year the group has been able to assist 35 Freeborn County foster children. Members have attended several foster care family meetings and communicate regularly with Freeborn County Social Services.
