The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team defeated Blue Earth 7-0 Tuesday at Albert Lea High School.

Seniors Taylor Herfindahl, Foster Otten and Schafer Overgaard, as well as freshman Grant Herfindahl led the Tigers in singles play. Otten and Grant Herfindahl each swept their two sets, while Overgaard and Taylor Herfindahl dropped just one game each to go 6-1 and 6-0 in theirs.

In doubles action, Albert Lea’s Andrew Huerta-Ortiz and Keith Grzybowski were the only pair to sweep both of their sets. The pairings of Austin Dulitz and Nikk Christianson and Michael Savelkoul and Sam Ehrhardt each went 6-1 and 6-0 to win their matches.

“The guys enjoyed picking up their fourth win of the season,” said Albert Lea coach Tom Dyrdal. “We were definitely the stronger team on the court today. Blue Earth has a young team this year. They played hard but weren’t able to match up with our more experienced players.”

Next, Albert Lea (4-1 overall, 3-1 Big Nine Conference) will go on the road to face fifth-ranked Rochester Century at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

“Our schedule gets very challenging in the next week,” Dyrdal said. “We need to keep working hard each day to improve physically and mentally.”
