Violet Caya, 1918-2016

Funeral services for Violet “Vi” Caya will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Kassera will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Violet passed away on April 1, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea.  She was 97.

Violet H. (Kopischke) was born May 4, 1918, in Janesville, to Julius and Elizabeth (Wolfgram) Kopischke. She attended and graduated from Janesville High School in 1936. On Oct. 10, 1937, she was united in marriage to Clinton Caya in Waseca. To this union, three children were born.  The family moved to Richmond, California, for a time, but then moved back to Albert Lea — a place they always called home.

Vi was a faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She was a part of ladies aid as well as the Serving Circle. She was deeply rooted in her Christian faith. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and quilting. She always had fresh-baked cookies for her guests. Vi loved to watch and listen to the Minnesota Twins. She can be described as a loving, sweet and caring lady.

She is survived by her grandchildren Tony (Kaylee) Caya, Sheila Collingwood, Chris (Kori) Caya, Greg (Kristi) Caya, Richard (Marilyn) Caya, Michael (Vima) Caya, Dawn Caya and Steven (Ellannee) Rajewsky; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family and friends.

Violet is preceded in death by both parents; husband, Clinton; children Donald, Gordon and Frank; and siblings Ella, Reinholt, Ervin, Rudolph and Melvin.
