Glenville-Emmons drops lead to Houston in 7th

GLENVILLE — For nearly seven whole innings  of baseball, it looked like the Wolverines were set to pick up their first win of the season — until momentum changed with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.

Glenville-Emmons lead 7-3 at the start of the inning. With two outs, Houston strung together five consecutive hits. Add an error in Glenville-Emmons’ fielding, and the end results was Houston winning 10-7 Friday at Glenville-Emmons High School.

Despite the loss, Wolverines coach Lucas Knutson saw a lot of progress from his young team.

“I was really happy with the way we pitched and played until the seventh inning,” he said. “We made some things happen by putting the ball in play.”

Carter Dahlum was on the mound for the Wolverines for 6 2/3 innings, giving up just three earned runs on 11 hits. The Glenville-Emmons junior also walked three and struck out seven.

Carter and Dawson Dahlum were leaders on offense for the Wolverines with two runs scored apiece. Derek Van Ryswyk and Anthony Rasmusson each scored a run and contributed an RBI each, as well.

“This was probably the best game we’ve played,” Knutson said. “There were a lot of highlights, I thought.”

This season marks the first since 2011 in which Glenville-Emmons has been able to fill out a varsity roster. Still, the Wolverines lineup is just 11 players deep, two of which — including Dawson Dahlum — are in eighth grade.

“We’re still a pretty young team,” Knutson said. “Our experience level isn’t at the same level as other teams, but I think we’re getting better.”

Next, Glenville-Emmons (0-7 overall, 0-6 Southeast Conference) hosts Schaeffer Academy at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
