Albert Lea Community Theatre announces auditions for “The Wizard of Oz” will be at 7 p.m. May 23 and 7 p.m. May 24 at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.
Directed by Steven Kinney, nine performances of this musical are scheduled for July 14 through July 23. There are many roles in the show for men and women, some of which may involve singing and dancing. Children over age 8 are encouraged to audition for the roles of munchkins. If possible, adults and teens should not arrive to auditions until 8 p.m.
Children will audition first at 7 p.m. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing, learn a simple dance routine and read from the script. Those interested in a role can attend either night of auditions, but do not need to attend both. Rehearsals will be scheduled weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.
ACT also is searching for a canine star. If you know of a small dog that would make a great Toto, email act@actonbroadway.com.
“The Wizard of Oz” is a classic musical that takes the audience on a journey from the cornfields of Kansas to the magical Land of Oz. Join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Toto as they follow the yellow brick road to Emerald City to meet the Wizard. Based on the 1939 motion picture, audience members will enjoy the story and songs they are familiar with, such as “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain” and “The Merry Old Land of Oz.”
