Women at Glenville United Methodist Church are using their talents to help young girls in Africa.

The women over the last few months have sewn 59 pillowcase dresses that will be sent out this week to a nonprofit organization in Michigan called Little Dresses for Africa, who will then send them overseas.

One of the women, Karnella Schwierjohann, said this is the first time for the women to take part in the effort.

The dresses were made in all sorts of different sizes and colors, some plain and others with embellishments such as lace. They are made mostly with old pillowcases.

Schwierjohann said the women sewed the dresses at home and then recently had them on display for the church’s salad luncheon.

In the past, she said, the women have given money for children for school supplies and made things for the elderly.
