CLARKS GROVE — Royal Lawn of Clarks Grove is right in the thick of one its busiest times of year.

“We’re doing our first applications, which have our crabgrass preventer,” said Dirk DeVries, who manages the business. “We’re also working on our dandelion control right now.”

“Fertilizer is included in all our applications,” he said. “Our general full season program is four times a year and we have the crabgrass preventer and dandelion control, but everything has fertilizer in it.”

The fertilizer helps ensure the lawn stays green and healthy throughout the season.

Royal Lawn also installs underground irrigation systems.

Systems are customized,  DeVries said the company gives free estimates. Staff come out and measure the yard to determine where the sprinkler heads should go to ensure proper coverage. After units are installed, they also help customers continue to maintain their systems. They make arrangements to come out in the spring to start up systems for those who do not opt to do it themselves and they then make their way around to all their customers before the ground freezes to winterize systems also available at lawngonewild.com.

DeVries said this is a step that is almost impossible for homeowners to do on their own, yet is vital to keep the system operational. Staff come out and use an air compressor on all the lines to ensure there is no water left behind. Systems that are not properly winterized are at a high risk for having an irrigation pipe crack during the winter, which is not cheap to fix.

Two things customers will not find Royal Lawn doing is mowing or landscaping.

“When you specialize in something, you do a better job at it,” DeVries said.

Royal Lawn’s coverage area includes Albert Lea, Austin, Owatonna, Waseca, Blue Earth and all the cities surrounding areas. As a result of its vast coverage area, staff will make sure to get each customer in a specific town on certain days for efficiency.

Royal Lawn is at 105 W. Main in Clarks Grove and shares a building with Royal Sports, which is staffed by Royal Lawn’s employees, as well.

Royal Sports specializes in parts, service and sales for ATVs and snowmobiles. It exclusively sells Arctic Cat vehicles and accessories in the store, which houses both adult and youth models. Royal Sports has single-person models in stock and can order two-person models, too.
