Weekend Planner: Weekend Humane Society fundraiser slated

The Freeborn County Humane Society and Ranch & Pet Supply on Saturday will host their third annual Six-Legged 5k fundraiser, an event for area residents and their dogs.
The event begins at 9 a.m. at Ranch & Pet Supply, 2014 E. Main St.
People can register ahead of time for $25 per person or $80 per team or register the day of the event for $30 per person, or $100 per team. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society.
Over the past two years, the event has raised over $6,000.
In addition to the 5k, there will be carnival games, a bounce house and food from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday
• An exhibit featuring the work of artist May Ya-Ya will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Albert Lea Art Center, 226 W. Clark St.
• Friends of the Library will host its spring book sale from noon to 6 p.m. at City Hall.
• The “Animal, Vegetable, Mineral” exhibition will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative, 224 S. Broadway.
Saturday
• Friends of the Library will host its spring book sale from 9 a.m. to noon at City Hall.
• The Land Between the Lakes Paddle, Pedal, Run will begin at 9 a.m. at the Brookside Boathouse.
The race will begin with a 1.5-mile paddle on the channel and Bancroft Bay. Racers will then transition to a 9-mile bike ride through Albert Lea area countryside, and will finish with a 3.1-mile run around part of Fountain Lake. Cost is $30 for an individual, or $20 per person on a relay team. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The fee includes a T-shirt, meal ticket and canoe/kayak rental.
Proceeds will benefit the Albert Lea splash pad.
• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will open from 9 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall.
• The Albert Lea Art Center will host an exhibit and sale of original art from Merna Sunde from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.

• Harmony Junction will host its spring concert at 3 and 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church. Entry to the spring show, themed “Gospel Joy” is $13. Tickets are are available the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hy-Vee, MarketPlace Foods and Addie’s Floral & Gift.
• Shinefest will host a block party from 4 to 7 p.m. at Academy Park.
Sunday, May 22
• American Legion Post 56, 142 N. Broadway, will host a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $7. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, fruit cup, potatoes and scrambled eggs with or without diced ham, juice and coffee.
• The Albert Lea Art Center will host an exhibit and sale of original art from the late Merna Sunde from 1 to 4 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.
• The Albert Lea High School senior vocal recital will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 2000 Tiger Lane.
