MINNEAPOLIS — Two people have drowned in Minnesota lakes.

Both drownings happened on a hot Saturday — one northwest of Minneapolis, the other in western Minnesota.

In Elk River, a man in his 40s went underwater while swimming in Lake Orono. The man was pulled from the water, but could not be resuscitated. The name of the victim was not immediately released.

The second drowning happened a few hours later on Lake Miltona near Miltona. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office got a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. about a 55-year-old man who went overboard and had not resurfaced. Divers recovered the body of Scott Gagner of Miltona from more than 6 feet of water about an hour later, but he could not be revived.
