ALHS boys’ golf wins districts

50 years ago: 1966
• Ellendale advanced to the semi-final round of sub-district baseball with a 6-5 win over Freeborn.
Barry Ribbe had three hits for the Raiders.
Al Lindeman threw a four-hitter, struck out 14 Ellendale batters and had two hits for Alden High School in its 1-0 win over the Raiders. The Blackhawks advanced to district play.
In an eight-inning first round game, Albert Lea High School defeated Austin 8-7. The Tigers were led by Rick Swanson, Chuck Slette and Byron Nelson with two hits each.
In the other first round game Alden was eliminated by Hayfield, 4-1.
• ALHS won the district golf title 471-482 over Austin. The Tigers scores were Bob Oothoudt (140) medalist, Floyd Harves (160). Steve Gordon (163) and Tony Hanson (169).
25 years ago: 1991
• The Alden-Conger-Freeborn girls’ softball team won the title in District 2A and advanced to Region 1A. Team members were Leiha Grunzke, Shelly Beck, Kris Boettcher, Jenny Walcholz, Rachel Johannson, Lori Redman, Jayne Rasmussen, Marci Newman, Jenni Dulas, Jenny Sorenson, Amanda Lindeman, Christy Merritt, Janine Koziolek, Theresa Trow, Amy Hendrickson and Kristen Schmidt. The team was coached by Gary Nelson.
• A-C-F won the Region 1A title by defeating Dover-Eyota 4-0 behind the two-hit pitching of Jenna Dulas and advanced to the Minnesota state tournament.
• Nate Jensen won the the high jump and Chad Bohonek placed second in the 100 and 200-meter dashes for ALHS in Region 1AA and both advanced to the Minnesota state track and field tournament. Laura Olson of ALHS in the girls division placed second in the high jump and also advanced to the state tournament.
10 years ago: 2006
• The United South Central girls’ golf team defeated Fairmont 380-399 and advanced to the Minnesota state girls’ golf tournament. Scores for the Rebels were Tiffany Adams (91), Cassie Wood (93), Kelsey Treptow (95) and Jessica Stensrud (101).
• The Donut Hut won the Shopper’s Special Bowling League title. Team members were Joy Christian, Faye Anderson, Verna Gilbertson and Bea O’Neal.
