City to begin sealing streets

The city of Albert Lea Street Department will begin the annual chip sealing of city streets on Monday, according to a press release.

Chip sealing involves placing a thin layer of oil on the street and then covering the oil with a layer of protective rock. The streets to be chip sealed this year include the streets east of Fourth Avenue South to South Broadway, West of Nineth Street (West of Highway 69), and SE Marshall from Main Street to Prospect Avenue.

Temporary “No Parking” signs will be installed the day prior to placement of the chip seal and will remain until the streets have been swept, usually about three to four days.
