GENEVA — Geneva Bar & Grill will host the annual Geneva Cancer Run on Saturday.
In its fifth year, the event has become increasingly popular, according to organizer DeeAnn Randall. Last year, 155 riders took to the streets to raise money for people battling cancer.
Registration is $10 per rider and will last from 9 to 10:50 a.m. For those who do not want to drive a vehicle, a bus will be available to ride. The rider fee must still be paid to ride the bus.
The ride will begin at 11 a.m. and will be led by 8-year-old Connor Weckworth, who has been battling brain cancer. Weckworth and his family will ride in a fire truck, while motorcycles, cars and a bus follow behind.
The ride will have a short intermission for lunch in Racine and then continue through Spring Valley and Brownsdale. Finally, riders will return to Geneva around 4:30 p.m.
After the ride concludes, the fun times begin at Geneva Bar and Grill with a silent auction, live auction, raffle drawing and live music provided by Rush Hour from Austin and Rip Doozers, Randall said. From country to rock, these bands will be sure to interest fans of all music genres.
Items up for auction in the live auction include donated furniture and crafts. The silent auction will include baskets donated by local businesses and will close at 6:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m. the raffle will be drawn with a 40-inch television, a Dell laptop, a gas grill and a motorcycle service card worth $250 up for grabs. Raffle tickets are $10. Winners do not need to be present to receive their prize.
City Park will be open for free camping for those who do not wish to leave at the end of the night.
Last year, the Geneva Cancer Run brought in around $13,000. This year, with the addition of the raffle, organizers hope to raise $25,000. The money raised in this event goes to help with daily expenses for those who are battling cancer.
