The Northwood-Kensett Vikings were looking to put a rough week behind them when they traveled to Rockford Tuesday night.

Having been outscored 40-4 against some very tough competition in their previous three games, the Vikings got a great pitching performance in a 6-2 victory.

Sophomore Colton Moretz pitched five solid innings and struck out seven, and his offense backed him up.

After allowing one run in the first inning, Moretz shut down Rockford the following two innings and, in turn, gave his offense a chance to even the score.

It did more than that. The Vikings scored one run in the second, then three in the third, and two more in fourth to give Moretz a comfortable cushion.

Trevor Varner collected three hits and three RBIs for the Vikings.

The Vikings played St. Ansgar Wednesday, but a score has not been reported.

Northwood-Kensett will host Lake Mills tonight.
