Stop being a hater about fair singer

To the writer in Friday’s letter “County fair is about family and community” by Karin Winegar. You missed the boat. The county fair is for everyone, no matter where you are from or where you are going. And to say that a performer has “a lifetime record of ugly behavior, twisted opinions, controversial and repellent statements,” have you seen who goes to the fair or are you only there until the sun sets? How many convicts and other hateful people are at the fair? They don’t advertise, so you don’t know.
There are more people there with those same ideologies and lifestyles than that one performer. They just don’t have the media coverage to get themselves on the airwaves. But they still are very much a part of the fairgoers.
You cannot let yourself be drawn to denying the minority or majority their rightful opinions because they don’t agree with yours. Your language is taking us a step back in time where we suppressed individuals or groups because they were different. For example, hippies — remember them? — long haired boys from the ’60-’70s with flowers everywhere. How people looked down upon them when they entered the fairgrounds, and now, those liberal minded hippies are doing exactly what happened to them back then except they are attacking anyone who is different. They no longer have the long hair. They are now much older, and still view the world in their narrow vision.
The old eye for an eye in the matter of how we treat one another just doesnt work. Sure, Mr. Nugent has a few people stirred, but I, for one, like his music, and he is an avid hunter, which I enjoy watching his hunting shows.
Should we then also ban the Democrats and Republicans from campaigning at the fairgrounds?
Stop being a hater. If you don’t want to hear him sing, then don’t go to the fair. He is not on stage for campaigning. That all happens under the grandstand, and it has nothing to do with him. I hope you realize they sell his CDs in stores that you buy merchandise from, and you still patronize those stores? Shame on you.
