Betty Jean Lageson, 1930-2016

Betty Jean Lorraine (Edwardson) Lageson, 86, of Ellendale died peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

Betty Jean was born on Feb. 25, 1930, in Owatonna, to Ray and Lorraine (Johnson) Edwardson. She attended Berlin Country School District No. 70 from first to eighth grade and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1948. After graduation she worked for Federated Insurance in Owatonna. On Sept. 4, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Angus Lageson. They made their home on a farm near Hope.

Betty enjoyed working on the farm. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, crossword puzzles and was an excellent baker of breads, bars, cookies, cakes and lefse. She also enjoyed being a member of the neighborhood extension clubs.

Betty Jean is survived by six children; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren, including, daughter Carol (Al) Shultz, her children Greg (Nicole), Brian (Carrie), Kristin (Randy) Baana and Brett (Trista) and her grandchildren Ella, Layla, Ava, Addison, Riley,  Ethan, Katelyn, Annabelle, Colin and Reid; daughter, Donna (Gordon) Hanson, and her children Jennie (David) Bunn, Chad (Stephanie) and David (Malinda) and her grandchildren Payton, Parker, Sofia, Carter, Sophia, Colby, Cooper, Dashiel and Avery; son, Larry (Bonnie), and his children Cody (Amy) and Carly (Steven) Scherz; daughter, Julie (Adryn) Peterson, and her children Lacey (Brad) Grutzik, Bjorn (Gina) and Onika and her grandchild, Graham; daughter, Jean (Steve) Clausen, and children, Dain (Tori) and Adyn (Meghan); son, Steve, and child, Karissa; brother, Duane (Mary) Edwardson; sister-in-law, Idella Hartle; and brother-in-law, Gerald (Betty) Lageson.

Betty Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Angus Lageson; her parents; grandparents; and brother-in-laws Alvin, Reuben (Dorothy) Lageson and Jerome Hartle.

“My friends and family. How precious you all have been to me.  Knowing and loving each one of you was a privilege and brought me much joy and happiness,” Betty said.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale.  Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Richard Sliper will officiate. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale.
