Carol Severtson, 1930-2016

Carol L. Severtson of Glenville died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 86, or halfway to 172, as he would say.

Carol was born March 11, 1930, in Albert Lea, the son of Alfred and Katherine (Billat) Severtson. He attended District No. 23 Country School from first grade in 1936 until eighth grade in 1944. Carol had six brothers, five of which were in World War ll at the same time. The youngest, Kenny, was in Korea. He was very proud of his brothers.

Carol was united in marriage to Patricia Tenney on Nov. 2, 1950. They had four sons: Bill, Mike, Dan and Brian. Pat passed away Jan. 14, 1997, at the age of 61. In his early years, Carol worked for Emil Olson’s Redi Mix, or “Gasoline Alley” as some called it. He then began at Streater in November 1959 through 1992, when he retired — a total of 47 years as he told it.

In his free time, Carol enjoyed fishing, having fish frys and camping, which began in 1964 with a trip almost every year to Rainy River in Birchdale. His last trip was in September 2015. He loved gardening, taking pictures and attending many ballgames of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol also had a hobby of CB radio back in the day with his handle name being “Sivit,” which a lot of family and friends continued to callw him. He enjoyed his computer, his one-of-a-kind posts and stories on Facebook and watching the eagles on the Department of Natural Resources live camera. Carol also was very proud of his Polish intuition and politics and spent a lot of time talking with his bulldog, Cowboy. He also loved his time spent with family and grandchildren telling stories.

Carol is survived by his son, Bill, and his wife, Sandi Severtson, of Lake Lillian; granddaughter, Michele (Dave) Dahlk, of Bird Island; granddaughter, Dawn (Bill) Teetzel, of Hutchinson; grandson, Robert Severtson, of Akaska, South Dakota; and great-grandchildren Brittany, Logan Dahlk, Liam, Levi and Landon Teetzel. He is also survived by son, Mike Severtson, of Glenville; grandson, Greg Severtson of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren Kennedy and Cale Severtson;  granddaughter, Holly (Bryan) Stevens; great-grandchildren Carson Stevens and Tyler and Reece Stevens; grandsons Blaine and Garrett Severtson of Ortonville; brother Kenny Severtson, of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; sons Dan in 1998 and Brian in 2014; daughter in-law, Charlotte Severtson; brothers Val “Bud” (Leona) Severtson, Roger Severtson, Faye (Gina) Severtson, Clayton (Marvel) Severtson and Dick Severtson; sister-in-law, Sarah Severtson; and his bulldog, Cowboy.
