Trinity Lutheran Church Women

The Trinity Lutheran Church Women Heritage Luncheon was at noon June 1. Dori Schou played the piano as guests arrived. Co-president Marlene Wright welcomed everyone, with a special welcome to ladies 80 and older.

Devotions were given by Jo Meyer and were based on Psalm 90. Her focus was on heritage and the legacy people leave behind of faithfulness and spiritual legacy.

Schou also played the piano as the people present sang the table prayer. A luncheon followed prepared by Greg Andersen. The Deborah and Eunice circles served the luncheon, with Katie Jacobsen and Liz Skov as chairwomen. The circle was assisted by Lance Skov, Leverne Skov, Shorty Jensen and Gary (Jake) Jacobsen.

Following the luncheon, Jan Drews introduced the program, “Stories” by Michael Cotter and Bev Jackson-Cotter. Jackson-Cotter’s stories evolved from stories at the historical museum.  She reminded the group that this was the 75th year of the Pioneer Luncheon (now called Heritage Luncheon.)  It began in 1942.  Her stories were “The Reflection,” “Listening” and “My Mom.”

Michael Cotter went to a storytelling workshop at the age of 50. He made his stories come alive by telling us of his personal experiences from years ago. “My Finest Hour” was about his baby daughter, Mary, who was in the hospital for spinal meningitis and how he brought her home. He told the group about how men would stop for food in the ’30s and many were World War I veterans. They would tell him their stories. He said if you tell stories about people’s lives, you’ll have community.

Marlene Wright said thank you to Schou, Meyer, Jackson-Cotter, Cotter, the Deborah and Eunice Circles, Jacobsen and Skov, Andersen and the men who assisted. She reminded people of St. John’s coffee on June 12, with Adeline Biedermann chairwoman, for serving the residents and their guests.Wright had an informal question and answer session, who of honored guests had been baptized at Trinity, married at Trinity, how many had at one time or another served as an officer of the Trinity Lutheran Church Women, etc.

The offering was collected and the meeting closed with praying the Lord’s Prayer.
