Ascension Lutheran Church Women
The Ascension Lutheran Church Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church had its regular meeting at 10 a.m. July 10 following worship service. Co-president Lola Evans opened with devotions. Co-president Denise Sandager conducted the business meeting.
The secretary’s report was given by Lorraine Schaper. The treasurer’s report was given by Cheryl Venem.
A motion made and carried to disperse some funds to church funds toward repair of an air conditioner.
A thank you read was from Kayla Overland for the graduation quilt she received from WELCA.
The group also received an invitation from Emmons Lutheran Church Women to its guest night. Its program will be by the 3 CD’s.
Ascension Guest Night will be Aug. 16 with the salad supper at 6 p.m. It was reported that the posters and invitations have been sent to the churches on the list.
Jane Pearson, salad supper organizer, reported. Sharon Anderson will take care of the table decorations. Pearson will call for more kitchen helpers. The greeting/registration table for that evening will be taken care of by Margaret Aasen and Gayle Olson. Sandager will check for name tags.
The group had a discussion about if anyone knew the date as to when the quilt being donated for the Good Earth Fall Auction has to be delivered. A representative of the group will check on this as the quilt is almost completed.
The group thanked Irene Anderson for volunteering to chair the Ascension Time and Talent Bazaar, which will take place Nov. 5.
Caroline Sorenson volunteered to help Sharon Anderson with Good Samaritan Bingo on Wednesday.
St. John’s Sunday coffee will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 7. Mary Circle will serve.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 13. Bible study will be followed by the meeting. Mary Circle will host.
Sandager closed the meeting with prayer.
Duplicate Bridge Club
The Duplicate Bridge Club played at noon July 13 at Minnesota Senior Center in Austin. Five tables played at the event. Winners were Barb Engebretson and Carolyn Higgins, first place; Loren Cleland and Bud Higgins, second place; Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher, third place; Warren Behrends and Eunice Michaelis, fourth place; and Lorraine Quinlivan and Julie Quinlivan, fifth place.
According to a press release, duplicate bridge is played at noon each Wednesday at Minnesota Senior Center in Austin. All bridge players are welcome to attend.
