BEMIDJI — Court records show a social worker recommended a 2-year-old girl be removed from her foster parents more than a year before her drowning death in their Bemidji home.

According to a press release, reports that an intake and assessment coordinator with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe filed a report last March in which the social worker listed concerns about past abuse allegations and poor supervision in the foster home of Nathan Jackson and Amanda Darlyne White. But the tribe still kept the girl in the foster home.

Jackson is accused of leaving the girl, Kira Friedman, unattended in a plastic bin in the shower on June 5.

He’s charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter in the girl’s death.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
