With the primary election now behind us, more people are thinking ahead to the general election.

As the candidates continue their campaigns, the Tribune welcomes letters to the editor as they as good for healthy dialogue, which benefits the democratic process. That said, there are some basic guidelines for submitting letters. Election2016 Logo.bw

In August, September, October and early November each author is limited to one letter to the editor concerning politics per calendar week. This does not affect each author’s ability to submit apolitical news items such as weddings, engagements, obituaries or news about a service club, to name a few.

As usual, the word limit for letters is 500 words. The Tribune will not accept letters concerning politics after 5 p.m. Nov. 4. The last edition letters will be published is Nov. 6.

The Tribune attempts to publish all letters within the word limit with some exceptions:

• Any letters that are libelous will not be published.

• Unproven accusations will need to be investigated as true before being published.

The Tribune reserves the right to make decisions as cases arise.

In addition, each candidate may have one guest column before the general election. Guest columns are limited to 800 words and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Oct. 14.
