First Lutheran Church Women
First Lutheran Church Women met Aug. 10 in Bethany Hall. Prelude music was provided by Joan Holt.
After the welcome by co-President Marge LaFrance, devotions were given by Sandy Narverud from “Five Minutes With Jesus.” She read the selection “Don’t Drop It!” — an analogy between dropping a precious vase passed down from generation from generation and keeping the faith. The message was to live life boldly with love, mercy and grace with help from the Holy Spirit and God’s word.
As a group, members read the FLCW purpose statement.
LaFrance introduced the Faith Tones, who presented the program. The group of 14 ladies was started last fall. Most are Methodists, but others are welcome to join the group. They enjoy singing together and have a lot of fun, according to their director, Laura Virgil. Their accompanist was Dori Schou. Selections included “Great and Mighty is He,” “Glorify,” “Soon and Very Soon,” “I Will Follow Him” from the movie “Sister Act,” and the group’s signature song, “This Little Light of Mine.” Faith Tones concluded the program with the Irish blessing, “May the Road Rise Up to Meet You.”
During the business meeting, the secretary’s report was read and approved as printed with a motion by Cheryl Moran and seconded by Bonnie Trampel. Treasurer Virginia Hermanson’s report will be placed on file for audit.
Correspondence secretary Trampel received thank you letters from the Rev. Al and Nancy Stoa for the retirement gift they were given; Joe and Katherine Pacovsky of the Czech Inn who appreciated the group coming for lunch on July 13; and Executive Director Linda Bushkofsky for supporting Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Association. Newsletters were received from Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge and from Wycliffe Bible Translators — “A Word from the Satres.” They will be placed in the library.
In old business, the quarterly report was handed out. LaFrance noted that the salad luncheon proceeds had been given to the nursery renovation. Cindy Martin expressed appreciation for using the round table seating during FLCW programs.
The group sang “What a Fellowship, What a Joy Divine,” during the offering, after which Sandy Narverud gave the offering prayer.
LaFrance thanked the ushers Ruth Noren and Trampel; greeters Tep Christenson and Julia Tonder; and hostesses, chairwoman Carol Colstrup and her committee of Marlene Behle, Shirlie Brownlow, Alicia Helland and Judy Hoiseth.
Co-chairwomen Bonnie Schneider and Helene Westrum and their committee served five funerals in July.
Announcements were made. Rally Day will be at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 11 with a celebration in Bethany Hall at First Lutheran Church and in the south lot; FLCW Pioneer Day will be at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 14 at Bethany Hall at First Lutheran Church; and Confirmation Sunday will be at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 during church services.
The meeting was closed by praying the Lord’s Prayer and the Table Prayer.
