A.L. swimming and diving comes up short against Faribault

The Albert Lea girls’ swimming and diving team had its second meet of the season in Faribault Thursday night.
The Tigers fell to the Falcons 97-77, but had some solid performances on the night.
Eighth-grader Jaeda Koziolek took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.09. She beat her teammates — Lydia Boorsma and Emily Jensen — by seven and 10 seconds, respectively.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Koziolek led the foursome of Natalie Nafzger, Alana Skarstad and Emily Taylor to a first place finish with an overall time of 4:11.69. The Tigers also took second place in the event with the foursome of Jill Peterson, Lexie Simon, Jensen and Boorsma finishing with a time of 4:46.
Koziolek took second place in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:34.80.
Jensen finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:20.06.
Taylor showed her ability by taking second place in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing .14 seconds behind Faribault’s Bre Bresnahan with a time of 26.20.
The final highlight of the night for Tigers came in the 200-yard medley relay. The group of four — Boorsma, Taylor, Koziolek and Nafzger — took second place with a time of 2:04.42, which was only two seconds behind Faribault.
The Tigers are off until Sept. 22 when they will host Owatonna.
