Jaguars add to Tigers’ woes

The Albert Lea Tigers football team traveled to Jordan to play the Jaguars Friday night, looking for its first win of the season.
Jordan was also looking for its first win of the season.
The two teams each scored a touchdown in the first quarter, but then the Jaguars took over.
They scored the next 60 points to run away with the game, 68-6.
Thanks to 26 points in the second quarter, the Jaguars built a 34-6 halftime lead and never looked back.
Despite the loss, Tigers coach Corey Black was happy to see improvement within his team.
“We did a lot of things well,” Black said. “Our passing game was much improved and we ran the ball well. We just weren’t able to punch the ball into the end zone.”
Quarterback Sam Chalmers finished the game 8-21 for 128 yards, and Jessie Hernandez carried the ball 11 times for 65 yards.
One thing that has consistently hurt the Tigers this season has been penalites, and the penalties committed Friday night made it tougher for them to score and helped the Jaguars score an abundance of points.
“Penalties were costly, as they took us out of scoring position twice,” Black said. “Penalties also put us behind the chains multiple times on offense, so much so that it was difficult for us to get into a rhythm.”
Senior Ben Witham scored the only touchdown of the game for the Tigers on a 10-yard run.
Albert Lea will finally, weather permitting, have its first home game of the season when it hosts Tri-City United (2-1) Friday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
