Rebels rout Crusaders with punishing ground attack

A week after burying Kingsland, the United South Central football team was back on the gridiron mashing Mankato Loyola.
The Rebels ran for over 300 yards Friday night and, thanks to six rushing touchdowns, gashed the Crusaders, 39-7.
“Our line did an excellent job all night,” said Rebels coach Brandon Neseth.
Quarterback Mitch Harpestad was efficient when throwing the ball — 9-11 for 115 yards — and tough when running the ball — 10 carries for 59 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown run.
The Rebels were staked to an early lead, thanks to two touchdown runs by Hunter Johnson in the first quarter. USC added another touchdown in the second quarter, including Harpestad’s 37-yarder.
The Crusaders scored right before the end of the half to make it 20-7.
But two second-half touchdowns from Roel Pearles sealed the deal for the Rebels.
While the Rebels handled their second opponent of the season, they still have some things on which to work, most notably — discipline.
“We played great, but there is still room for improvement,” Neseth said. “We had 14 penalties for 145 yards. This is something we must shore up going forward.
United South Central will return to their friendly confines when it will host Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Friday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
