Weekend Planner: Art Center event highlight weekend events

The Albert Lea Art Center’s Celebrating the Art and Artists “A Night with Wine and Rose” will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
Internationally known artist Rose Frantzen will be in attendance painting former Judge Jim Broberg’s portrait throughout the night. There will be music, a wine tasting, appetizers, door prizes and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $20.

Friday
• The Cliff and Carol Rask art collection exhibit continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Art Center, 226 W. Clark St.
• “This Show Rocks” by artist Susanne Crane will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative.
Saturday
• The Freeborn County Historical Museum, 1031 Bridge Ave., will host an eight-hour AARP smart driver initial safety class from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. Call the museum at 373-8003 or stop by to register.
• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at Northbridge Mall, 2510 Bridge Ave.
• Shinefest Community Sew Day will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at AZ-One Community Center in Albert Lea.
• The Cliff and Carol Rask art collection exhibit continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Art Center, 226 W. Clark St.
• The Mohamed Mungani Memorial Bike Ride will begin at 11 a.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Registration starts at 10 a.m. Cost to participate is a bicycle helmet or $20 per rider. The event goes from Albert Lea and travels to Geneva and New Richland before ending at the Waseca Legion at 1:45 p.m. A meal will follow the ride with a silent auction and red and blue balloon release at 3 p.m. in memory of Mungani.

• Glenville American Legion will host a membership supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Menu includes ham, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy, and dessert.
Sunday
• CampFire will be all day at Harmony Park.
• American Legion Post 56 will host a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at 142 N. Broadway. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, fruit cup, potatoes and scrambled eggs with or without diced ham, juice and coffee. Cost is $7.50, with $1 going to the youth group or church of your choice.
