The Albert Lea girls’ tennis team competed in Rochester the Big Nine Conference in Saturday morning and afternoon.

The Tigers were able to pick up three wins during the course of the tournament.

Lexus Saltou beat Faribault’s Madeline Drevlow (6-4, 6-2) to reach the consolation championship, but fell to Mankato West’s Lexi Miller to come up just short of winning the consolation championship.

In doubles action, the duo of Sara Kabrud and Kaedyn Kirchner pulled off two exciting third set super tie-breakers to win the consolation championship. The duo beat Faribault’s team of Erica Johnsrud and Abby Goodwin (6-2, 4-6, 10-6) to get to the consolation match. In the consolation championship, Kabrud and Kirchner took down Sophie Geske and Alexis Locati of Rochester John Marshall (6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 10-8).

“We had a good day,” said Tigers coach Chris Withers. “We are looking forward to Tuesday’s section match.

Albert Lea will travel to Lakeville North High School for the section meet Tuesday.

Start time for the match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
