Ronald Haroldson, 1933-2016

Ronald G. Haroldson, 83, of Emmons passed away at his home Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, in Emmons.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmons Lutheran Church with the Rev. Christopher Martin officiating. Interment was at Lime Creek Cemetery in rural Emmons, with military honors conducted by Louis Tveite Post No. 317.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Ron was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Freeborn County to parents Walter and Esther (Nagel) Haroldson. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1952.

On April 17, 1953, he was married to JoAnn Johnson at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

He served as a member of the United States Army in the Korean War. He served as postmaster for 31 years in Hayward and Hill City.

He loved to take trips — including visiting 28 different national parks, fish, play cards with friends and travel across the United States to babysit his grandchildren for weeks at a time. Ron often volunteered to those in need, and participated in Meals on Wheels. He spent the last 18 years in the Gulf Shores of Alabama in the winter months, enjoying his time with friends on the beach.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn Haroldson (née Johnson); four children, Bruce (Virginia), Mark (Cecily), Ann and James (Jill); six grandchildren, Andrew Wahlin, Neil Haroldson, Amy Wahlin (Graham), Dane Haroldson, Paige Haroldson and Zane Haroldson; five great-grandchildren, Jack Wahlin, Haylie Wahlin, Kailey Graham, Isabella Graham and Bridger Graham; and a brother, Larry (Karen) Severson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters-in-law.

Ron was beloved by many he came in contact with in life. God bless his memory.
