The varsity girls’ soccer team had the weekend off, but that didn’t mean every team had the weekend off.
Albert Lea’s C-squad played in a soccer tournament in Kasson, and performed fairly well, coming away with a third-place finish.
Albert Lea lost its first game, 4-0, to Byron, but then rebounded when it tied St. Peter, 4-4.
Following the tie at the end of regulation, the game went right into a shootout. Lucy Stay, Macy Taylor and Malana Thompson scored for the Tigers in the shootout to get the victory.
In the third-place game, Albert Lea had 1-0 against Kasson-Mantorville with about a minute to play. But Kasson-Mantorville got a late goal to send it into another shootout.
The shootout went seven shooters deep, and Albert Lea’s Brittany Barreda-Yebra scored the game-winning goal and goalkeeper Trinity Haukoos made a save on Kasson-Mantorville’s shot to secure the win.
Abigail Chalmers, Hannah Conn, Evelyn Perez-Peralta, Barreda-Yebra, Stay, Taylor and Thompson all scored goals for the Tigers.
