Tigers survive in overtime

The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team stepped outside of Big Nine Conference play, as it traveled to Stewartville Monday night.

The Tigers got two goals from Claire Sherman in regulation, but it was the overtime goal from Ashley Butt that won the game for the Tigers, 3-2.

“It was a messy game, but we came away with the win,” said Tigers coach Laura Wangen.

Callie Hanson finished with two assists for the Tigers, and Rachel Rehnelt added another.

The win is the eighth of the season for the Tigers (8-5-1) and they sit with a record of 4-5 in the Big Nine Conference. They have a total of 12 points and are in eighth place, but are just three points behind fifth place.

The Tigers have two regular season conference matches left on their schedule.

Albert Lea will look to hand Mankato West its first loss in the conference tonight.

The match will take place at Hammer Sports Complex and start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
