5 things to do this weekend

1. “Guess Whodunit”

The Freeborn County Arts Initiative’s “Guess Whodunit” all-member exhibition will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 224 S. Broadway.

2. Girls of the Hit Parade Christmas Show

The Girls of the Hit Parade Christmas show will showcase cherished Christmas songs made famous in the 1950s by the Lennon sisters, Andrews sisters, McGuire sisters and the King family.

Costumed in classic ’50s Christmas ball gowns, the group is made up of Colleen Raye and her two daughters, Sophie and Jennifer Grimm; and sister, Debbie O’Keefe. Also performing this year will be Raye’s son, Reed Grimm.

The show begins at 7 p.m. Friday.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the box office or online. The box office opens two hours before the performance on show day. Tickets are also available by calling 1-877-730-3144.

3. The Evening of Dazzle

The 2016 Festival of Trees — Home for the Holidays will kick off Saturday with The Evening of Dazzle at Northbridge Mall. 

The event, a fundraiser for The Albert Lea Art Center, is scheduled to begin at about 5:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served.

Forty decorated trees will feature seasonal decorations and messages.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at The Art Center, Addie’s Floral & Gift, Albert Lea Convention & Visitors Bureau, Hy-Vee and MarketPlace Foods.

4. Walters oyster stew and chili feed

The Walters Volunteer Fire Department will host the annual oyster stew and chili feed from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Walters Fire Hall.

Oyster stew, chili, grilled cheese sandwiches, bread, homemade bars and beverages will be served. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and under.

5. Kiwanis 2016 winter wear drive

Want to do some cleaning in anticipation of some shopping this weekend?

The Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis Club will be collecting new or gently used, clean winter coats, boots, hats and mittens during its winter wear drive.

Collection boxes are at Farmers State Bank, Intego Insurance, St. John’s Lutheran Community, Albert Lea Family Y, Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, KATE/KCPI Radio, Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services, Home Federal Bank, Edward Jones, Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, Celebration’s Party & Gifts and Freeborn County Historical Society.

All sizes are needed. Items will be collected through Monday and will be donated to the Salvation Army and The Attic.
