Glenn R. “Benny” Scherb, 68, of Kiester died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester with the Rev. Katie Pals officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family. To leave an online condolence, visit www.brussheitner.com.

Benny was born to Ludwig and Leona (Nehring) Scherb on Aug. 27, 1948, in Albert Lea. Benny was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. He grew up in rural Kiester and graduated from Kiester High School with the class of 1967. Benny was proud to live on the family farm and loved being an active farmer. Benny married Cindy Beyer on Sept. 7, 1985, in St. Paul. He enjoyed bowling and was a card player, playing HucklyBuck, cribbage and more cribbage. Benny also enjoyed visiting up town and having coffee, square dancing and traveling. Benny served on Our Savior’s Lutheran Church council, Men in Mission, the cemetery board and was a head usher and funeral usher for many years. He was a member of the Kiester United Way, member and past president of the Kiester Lions and volunteered for InterFaith Care Givers. Benny was also a Kiester Township supervisor. He loved his dog, Lady.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Ann, in infancy; and father- and mother-in-law Vincent and Agnes (Jochum) Beyer.

Benny is survived by his wife, Cindy Scherb, of Kiester; two siblings, Maurice (wife, Kay) Scherb of Spencer, Iowa, and Janice (husband, Connie) Engebretson of Kiester; in-laws Joyce (Jim) Bear of Aurora, Colorado, and Jim (Sharon) Beyer of Huntsville, Arizona; nieces and nephews Michael Scherb of Mason City, Meredith Scherb of Des Moines, Molly Engebretson of Mankato, Jill (Lonnie) Steinhauer of Bricelyn and their children Brody and Carter, Shelley Johnson of Aurora and her children Samantha and Blake, Stephanie (Scott) Sly of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brad (Shelley) Beyer and his daughter, Michaela, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Chris (Kelly) Beyer of Tulsa and their children Hailey and Brooklyn and Michael Beyer and his daughter, Meagan, of Tulsa; and special friends Fred and Lanice Engebretson of Scarville, Iowa, Ann (Brendan) Nagle of St. Paul, Ryan Engebretson (fiancee, Stephanie Adix) of Scarville, Christian (Ashley) Engebretson of Nicollet and their children Wyatt and Mason, Debra Adix of Alden, Tyler Adix (special friend, Michelle Fischer) of Alden and Judy Meyer of Kiester.

May Benny rest in peace.  He will be deeply missed.
